Workshop description

Who attends

A team of leaders (2-5 people) from your setting attends the workshop. The leadership team includes clergy and/or at least one paid staff person, as well as one or more lay volunteers.

• What if 2 or more people cannot attend?

• Can a very small church have a BeFriender Ministry program?

New program leaders for existing BeFriender Ministry programs also attend this workshop.

Where and when

“Foundations” is offered several times each year in the Saint Paul-Minneapolis area. It occasionally is hosted in other cities throughout the U.S. Dates and locations of scheduled workshops are listed on our website.

Cost

The regular workshop fee is $649*. It includes:

• four days of training

• a full set of materials--everything needed to lead the ministry ($100 value)

Discounts are available for multiple registrants and for already-active programs. Discounts also are available through June 2008 for coordinators trained by the staff of LSS Minnesota's or Oasis Reflections Center's lay pastoral care program. (Both programs have been discontinued by their providers.)

* The workshop fee may vary somewhat in cities other than the Saint Paul-Minneapolis metro area.

Length

The 4-day workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. each day unless otherwise noted.  Scheduled dates may be  4 consecutive days or 2 consecutive days in each of two weeks.

Learning objectives

Through case studies, role-play scenarios, small group discussions, reflection exercises, and other learning activities you will:

• Understand the three primary roles of program leaders: trainer, facilitator, and administrator.

• Have a roadmap and the tools for implementing and maintaining the program.

• Understand the role of the BeFriender by experiencing the training you will ultimately deliver to lay volunteers in your own setting.

• Gain insights from workshop leaders who serve as models of effective training techniques.  

• Learn skills for facilitating ongoing skill-building and spiritual growth for BeFrienders.

A deposit of $100 is due when you register to reserve your space in the workshop.

Registrants receive a confirmation packet two weeks before the workshop begins. The packet includes details about logistics, as well as two hours of pre-work.
